Quantifying Ecosystem Functions to Facilitate Wetland Monitoring and Assessment

March 25, 2021 @ 2:00 pm - 4:00 pm CDT

The Mid-Atlantic region CEAP Wetlands study area spans about 58,000 km2 (22,400 mi2) in the eastern United States, including areas of the Atlantic Coastal Plain physiographic province located in five states (New Jersey, Maryland, Delaware, Virginia, and North Carolina). Wetlands are abundant in this region, but practices associated with agriculture, silviculture, urbanization, sea level rise, and other causes have resulted in substantial wetlands loss. This webinar will present the results of studies conducted to quantify ecosystem functions provided by restored wetlands and to develop tools that will facilitate wetland monitoring and assessment. Funded by the Conservation Effects Assessment Project (CEAP), these studies help build the scientific foundation necessary to support wetland restoration activities and to develop guidelines for the restoration of wetland-mediated ecosystem services.

This webinar will be presented by Greg McCarty, Audra Hinson, and Ling Du from the USDA-ARS Hydrology and Remote Sensing Laboratory and Peter Backhaus from the Penn State College of Earth and Mineral Sciences. Joe Prenger, NRCS’s CEAP Wetlands Component Leader, will be the moderator.

No registration is required.
